Kettering currently has one of the highest weekly rates of the virus in the country and last week the county force said they would be stepping up patrols in the borough and nearby Corby, which has an even higher rate.

Fines handed out in Kettering the past week have included those for not wearing a face covering when required.

Sergeant Megan Sae-Thang, from Northamptonshire Police, said: “I am really pleased with the results of the partnership work we are doing in Kettering. Covid places people in the local area at significant risk and it is important that we all do our part to adhere to regulations.

"By working closely with Kettering Council, sharing information, evidence and conducting joint patrols with our joint enforcement constables, police neighbourhood team, and council wardens, we are able to robustly tackle Covid breaches and areas of concern together to make Kettering safer for the residents.”

The joint patrols have been coordinated as a result of the national lockdown, to promote government guidelines and enforce regulations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officers and wardens are continuing to engage with the public and provide reassurance, and the patrols will continue as part of a planned programme to ensure the safety of the public.

A range of enforcement action can be imposed should it be required, to help prevent risks and encourage people to behave responsibly.

Shirley Plenderleith, head of public services at Kettering Council, said: “These joint patrols are fundamental in ensuring the public are reassured, safe and complying with the latest government guidance on Covid-19.

"Thank you to Northamptonshire Police and our wardens for your outstanding efforts and helping to keep the community safe during this difficult time.”
