A prolific shoplifter who was banned from Rushden town centre is back behind bars after admitting more thefts.

Darren Munt, 32, was told earlier this year that he would not be able to visit Rushden Lakes, the town centre, the Washbrook Road Asda or any county Co-op as part of a criminal behaviour order once he was released from prison.

But after he was let out he breached the order multiple times - and stole from shops while he was there.

Munt, of Westfield Avenue in Rushden, went to the Co-op in Grangeway on May 21 and stole meat worth £24.

Six weeks later on July 9 he helped himself to chocolate worth £40 from the Tesco Express in High Street, before going to the Co-op in Higham Ferrers' High Street the following day and stealing meat worth £80.

Three times, in September and October, Munt returned to the Grangeway Co-op and walked out without paying for laundry products.

He later admitted the thefts and five counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order at Northampton Magistrates' Court.

Magistrates sentenced him to a total of 28 weeks in prison because of his repeat offending.

Munt must pay costs of £185 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £128, but no orders for compensation were made.
