A serial rogue trader from Rushden is back behind bars after admitting 10 more crimes.

Alan Fitzgerald, 53, had previously been jailed for six years back in 2014 after cheating vulnerable victims out of £300,000.

Last month he was back in court and was fined after he conned two pensioners out of cash and never returned to do the work.

And this week the crooked trader, of Duck Street in Rushden, was at Northampton Magistrates' Court again after exploiting the elderly.

He made promises to his victims to complete work on windows and front doors and committed fraud by false representation.

In one case he told a male he had done a deal with fitters as they "owed him a favour" and that, instead of paying the fitters £450, he should pay him £240.

Another victim was told the quote she had been given by another builder was too high and that he could do it for less - if she paid £350 in advance.

He also told another woman that her conservatory was not fitted properly and needed a box which would cost £475, promising to reduce it to £275 if she paid by credit card.

One man was even told that if he paid £250 to have a front porch door replaced it would be used as a show home and the victim would receive £50 a week for three weeks.

Others were told they would have money knocked off their bill if they paid lump sums in advance.

All of the offences committed by Fitzgerald, who also uses an address in Park Street in Raunds, were committed in Northampton between April and June last year.

He admitted nine Trading Standards matters and one criminal matter and was remanded into custody until he is sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on April 1.
