Robber punched elderly woman in stomach and stole her handbag near Northamptonshire church

An elderly woman who uses a walking stick was punched in the stomach and had her handbag stolen during a robbery in Northamptonshire.

The 76-year-old was attacked as she was walking through the underpass near to Sacred Heart Church, Weston Favell, Northampton at about 9.40am yesterday (Monday).

The robber initially asked her if she was ok, before punching her and running off with the handbag.

He ran off in the direction of the shopping centre, but may have gone in another direction after leaving the underpass.

He is described as white, 6ft tall, well built, about 30-years-old with a clear complexion and clean shaven.

He was wearing a black woolly hat and a heavy, knee-length wool overcoat.
