He was banned from contacting a woman after he was given a restraining order at Northampton Magistrates' Court in March 2019.

Just over a year later Smith, of Laywood Close, contacted her, stole her house key, damaged her vacuum cleaner and assaulted her.

He was later charged and admitted breaching the restraining order but denied theft, criminal damage and assault by beating.

But earlier this month magistrates found him guilty on all charges and jailed him for a total of 20 weeks, citing previous similar offending against the same victim.

Smith must also pay his victim £100 in compensation, court costs of £250 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £122.
