Gates at the circuit open tomorrow ahead of the race on Sunday lunchtime, with a large number of spectators expected to arrive each day, many of who will be on motorbikes.

Northamptonshire Police says the event will mainly be policed by special constables who will be working with race commander Superintendent Dennis Murray.

Supt Murray, pictured, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the many visitors to the county and ensuring they have a safe and enjoyable time.

“We will be attending Silverstone Circuit during the next four days to support the event and tackle any criminal activity that takes place.”

“We are anticipating a higher than usual number of motorbikes on the county’s roads during the next four days and I would encourage all road users to drive sensibly and appropriately with the higher than normal traffic levels.

“Spectators should also ensure they leave their vehicles locked and secure when they park at the event, to minimise the chances of becoming a victim of crime. I would urge visitors, especially those camping, to heed crime prevention advice and to make sure they know the whereabouts of their valuables at all times.

”If you spot any suspicious activity, alert a steward straight away or call us on 101.”
