Police tape off Kettering town centre street

A busy Kettering town centre street has been taped off by police this evening (Wednesday).

Officers are at the scene of an incident in Montagu Street, between Silver Street and the Eskdaill Street junction.

Police are yet to reveal the nature of the incident although one Montagu Street business owner, who did not want to be identified, said he had been told there had been a serious assault near Sedir where there had been a function.

He said his staff had been told not to leave their premises.

Another resident nearby, who did not want to be named, said: "It's shocking news. I've lived in the area for 44 years and this is totally unheard of."

Another eyewitness who was in the area said at least seven police cars were at the scene with a dog unit also there.

Police have been contacted for further information.
