Police rescue eight-year-old from kidnappers on M1 near Northampton

Police have released dramatic footage of the moment they freed an eight-year-old child from kidnappers on the M1 in Northamptonshire.

Three vehicles from the Northants Armed Response Vehicle team cornered a silver Citroen Picasso with false number plates near to Junction 15 after being alerted by colleagues in North Wales.

The child was recovered "safely and unharmed" just hours after being reportedly abducted at knifepoint 200 miles away in Anglesey.

Four people were arrested at the scene and a further two have since been detained in Wales.

Detective Chief Superintendent Gareth Evans saluted the part Northamptonshire's officers played in the rescue said: “This has been a frightening incident for those involved.

"Our focus throughout has been to recover the child safe and well. I am happy to report that this was achieved and I would like to thank our colleagues in Northamptonshire for their swift assistance.

"Six adults who were arrested in connection with the incident have all been charged with kidnap. One of them has also been charged with possession of a bladed article."
