The Royal British Legion's silent soldier who stands next to the war memorial was damaged beyond repair in the incident and flower beds were ripped up and thrown over the street.

The shocking incident has been condemned by Thrapston Town Council, local MP Tom Pursglove and others on social media.

The community have rallied to raise money for the memorial and a Go Fund Me set up by Sophie Starsmore has more than £3,000 in donations.

The man in the images or anyone who recognises him should call police on 101.
