Police on the hunt for a man who followed and sexually harassed a young woman in Northampton

A young woman walking along Kettering Road in Northampton was followed and sexually harassed by a male stranger.

The sexual harassment took place between 4.45pm and 5.30pm on Saturday, March 20 when an 18-year-old woman was approached by man, who had been walking behind her on Kettering Road.

The man began to ask her questions and walked closely beside her as she attempted to walk away from him. He then put his arm around her, touched her hair and made comments that made her uncomfortable. He ignored her when she asked him to leave her alone.

The woman opted to walk along St Michael's Road where there were more people around but the man continued to stay with her.

As the woman reached the Aldi Store in Earl Street, the stranger moved away from her but remained in the area until she was met by a friend.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: "The suspect is described as a man in his thirties, five foot and six inches to five foot and eight inches, of average build and possibly mixed race or of Asian appearance. He had short dark hair and some facial hair. He wore a dark brown jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

"Anyone who saw any of the incident, or has information about it or the man described, is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number: 21000161543."
