Police launch investigation after man asked 12-year-old girl to get into his car in Northampton

Officers are asking for the man to come forward to help them understand what happened.

Northamptonshire Police are investigating a suspicious incident in Abington Park Crescent where a man asked a 12-year-old girl to get into his car between midday and 12.10pm on Saturday November 7.

The girl was pushing her bike when she walked past a parked black SUV type vehicle and the front seat passenger spoke to her.

The man got out of the vehicle and asked the girl to get in. However, she signalled for her mum to come over and walked away.

The man is described as Asian, aged between 20 to 25-years-old, about six feet tall and of a slim build. He had black hair, which was shaved at the sides and gelled on top. He was wearing a hooded top, grey jogging bottoms with long neon yellow socks over his ankles and a baggy top.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “We would like to reassure the local community that this type of incident is rare, however we take such reports very seriously and are currently investigating the circumstances of this incident.

“We would urge the man who approached the girl to get in touch with officers to help us understand exactly what happened.”
