Police have launched an arson investigation after a classic MG car was destroyed during a barn blaze near Wellingborough on Wednesday night.

About 60 firefighters were called to tackle the fire at Shepherds Hill, Wollaston, at about 7.05pm.

At least two tractors, two Kuhn fertiliser spreaders and other farm machinery was also inside the barn when it was set alight.

Ten crews were summoned from across the county to deal with the blaze and had to battle heavy rain and strong winds during a two-hour struggle to douse the fire.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "We are treating this incident as arson and appeal to anyone who was in the area and may have seen something suspicious, or has information which could help our investigation to contact us by calling 101."
