Police end rule-breaking Wellingborough house party with birthday boy handed fine

A Wellingborough lockdown-breaking celebration ended with police officers 'crashing' the party and handing out the gift of £100 Covid fines to the guests.

Wellingborough Neighbourhood Policing Team officers issued the fines to three partygoers - all from different households.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The incident happened on the morning of January 16, in Mill Road, Wellingborough where three people were having a birthday party, all from different households.

"Two people from Wellingborough, and one person from Northampton, were all fined."

A police officer on the scene reported that the person whose birthday it was called him a "criminal" adding that the police would be dealing with such incidents "robustly".
