Police dog helps track Wellingborough teenager spotted with machete

A police dog helped to track down a teenager with a machete in Wellingborough on Saturday (May 30).

The incident happened after a member of the public reported seeing a boy with a machete in Longfellow Road just before midday.

The police attended the scene but the teenager ran off on foot and discarded the weapon.

In an effort to track him down, the police helicopter and police dog Olly were deployed.

PD Olly tracked the teenager down at at address in Shelley Road. A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "An exceptional piece of work by PD Olly."
