A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a man near the Racecourse this morning.

Now, a 33-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the incident.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Pete Long, said: “We are still in the early stages of a very fast-paced investigation and a large team of Major Crime detectives are working on the case in order to bring the offender to justice.

“We have arrested a 33-year-old man but we are still keeping an open mind and would continue to appeal to anyone with any information to come forward.

“If you saw something suspicious in or around the area this morning or last night, please contact us, no matter how small or insignificant you think your information might be.

“Following some initial enquiries, I also want to reassure the public that we believe that this was an isolated incident and there is nothing to suggest any ongoing risk to members of the public.

“Increased patrols are taking place in the area to reassure the local community and house-to-house enquiries are also being conducted. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to approach an officer in the area.”

St George’s Avenue remains closed and motorists and pedestrians are still advised to avoid the area.
