Police said Kelly, of Langdale Grove in Corby, rang them from a phonebox to say he had the imitation firearm.

Officers deployed to the scene and when they arrived Kelly ran out of the phonebox and placed the gas-powered pistol on the floor before returning to the phonebox.

When he was arrested police also found a small knife on him.

At Northampton Magistrates' Court Kelly admitted having an imitation firearm in a public place and possession of a bladed article.
