Police say they are still investigating the theft of a substantial amount of money from Corby Nightlight.

Earlier this week it was announced that the investigation into the missing money had been closed after the chief suspect in the case died in Rotterdam.

But now it has emerged that police are looking at other lines of enquiry in the hope of clearing up the theft once and for all.

The charity, which ran a homeless shelter in the town's former police station, discovered that about £10,580 had gone missing from their bank account in November 2018.

The money had been donated to the charity by kind-hearted local people and businesses to help the shelter feed and house the town's rough sleepers through the winter of 2018/19. It sparked a huge amount of anger among local people.

The charity, once the subject of a Radio 4 documentary, had hoped to open its own permanent shelter in Cannock Road, but that plan never came to fruition. At its peak, it had more than 100 volunteers.

The Northants Telegraph understands that separate lines of enquiry are now being followed in the 18-month investigation into the alleged fraud.

A police spokesman said: “A police investigation into the theft of money from this charity remains open with evidence still being worked through and other parties still to speak to."
