Northamptonshire Police will feature in a new TV programme starting tonight about criminal assaults against officers on the beat.

'Police Code Zero' will debut on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm and is set to use bodyworn cameras, CCTV and dashcam footage to show how members of the force get attacked on duty.

A trailer for the series, shared online, shows the programme could include an incident outside the McDonald's on The Drapery in 2017 when three gang members tried to splash a rival with ammonia only for it to hit an officer and five members of the public.

Other incidents from forces across the country will include stabbings and attacks using fireworks.

It comes just days after two officers in Northampton were injured while arresting a man from a flat in Broad Mead on suspicion of a string of violent offences. One officer suffered a broken finger and another sustained back injuries.

And, in August 2018, an officer had the top of his ear bitten off by a man in custody at a probation office, in an incident where the same man punched one policeman in the jaw and bit another officer on the arm.

It comes after Northamptonshire Police was heavily featured on Channel 4's documentary series '999: What's Your Emergency?' that highlighted the difficulties officers face in the line of duty as well as the impact on victims of crime.
