Detectives have warned the public to beware of a loft insulation scam after an elderly Northamptonshire woman's quick thinking foiled tricksters.

Officers revealed the woman was called by someone telling her she was entitled to reduced price insulation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The man — who called himself Roger Brooks — visited the woman's property in Yardley Gobion later that day.

"He told her she had mould growing in her loft and quoted a price of £2,000 to sort out.

"Thankfully, the woman got suspicious and refused."

Experts who inspected the property later confirmed there was no mould.

Police say the suspect is a white man, aged 50 and about 5ft 6in, of stocky build, with short black hair.
