Five teenagers were arrested followng Wednesday's evening stabbing at McDonald's in Northampton town centre, police have confirmed this morning.

Police say the 17-year-old victim of the suspected knife attack sustained injuries which are "not life-changing or life-threatening"

This newspaper broke news of last night's incident after emergency services rushed to the the Drapery following a 999 call at around 4.30pm.

Armed officers were on the scene within four minutes of the call. Diners dashed out of the fast-food restaurant as the incident unfolded.

The five — three 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man — were arrested during the course of the evening and all remain in police custody on Thursday morning.

Superintendent Kev Mulligan, of Northamptonshire Police, said: “Police officers were on the scene yesterday afternoon within four minutes of the 999 call and an exceptionally fast-paced investigation was launched, leading to the arrests of five people throughout the evening and into the night.

“Violence in any form and in any place will not be tolerated. Thankfully, incidents such as this are extremely rare and there will be extra patrols in and around the area today to reassure the community.
