A Northampton man has been banned and fined for causing a head-on crash on the A45 near Raunds last year.

Catalin-Grigore Bobocel, 37, was behind the wheel of a Citroen C2 which veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a Peugeot travelling in the opposite direction at 6.30am on February 16 last year.

The driver of the other vehicle, a woman in her 50s, was seriously injured in the crash and taken to Kettering General Hospital but has since made a full recovery.

Bobocel, of Stockmead Road, Northampton, did not appear at Northampton Magistrates Court on April 12 but the case was found proved in his absence.

He was fined £666 for driving without due care and attention and also ordered to pay prosecution costs and a surcharge to fund victim services totalling £151.

Magistrates also added a six-month discretionary disqualification.
