A Northampton bus driver was spat at and had his cab smashed in a row over an ice lolly in Northampton on Monday.

Police are hunting a 6ft male in his late-20s or early-30s who got on the Stagecoach bus with a woman and small child in a buggy but flipped after the driver asked them to put away an ice lolly.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The man objected to this and became verbally abusive to the driver before he spat and punched the driver’s cab door causing damage.

"The man’s behaviour caused the driver to become alarmed and press the panic button."

Police say the incident happened between 3pm and 3.10pm on Monday (November 16) when the bus was parked on Stand A at Weston Favell and issued a description of a man they want to talk to.

He is white and in his late 20s to early 30s, 6ft and of a stocky build. He was wearing a black puffa-style jacket, grey T-shirt, dark trousers and was pushing a pram with bags of shopping and nappies on it.

The man was with a white woman of a slim build with dark hair. She was wearing a leather jacket. They sat at the back of the bus after getting on.

Police would also like to speak to three passengers who left the bus and walked off in the directions of the Goldings area following the incident.
