Police found cannabis plants worth around £60,000 after raiding a Northampton house following tip-offs by locals.

Officers raided the property in Kenmuir Avenue, in the Kingsley area of the town, at 8am on Wednesday morning.

A Police spokesman said: "Officers from the Neighbourhood Team, acting on local intelligence, found the property was being used to cultivate cannabis in several rooms with a total of 52 mature plants and 20 baby plants in a nursery in the loft."

Serdar Hagrepi, 24, of Kenmuir Avenue, Northampton at Northampton Magistrates Court charged with being concerned in the production of cannabis and immigration offences.

He was remanded in custody ahead of a trial at Crown Court and will next appear on April 9.

Northamptonshire Police admit information from the public has played a big part in an increasing number of drug raids across the county recently.

Superintendent Chris Hillery said: “There is a huge amount of energy and determination among our cops across Northampton at the moment to tackle the issues that are affecting our local communities and bring the people bringing those areas down to justice.

“The majority of people in Northampton are hardworking, decent members of society and they do not deserve to live in fear due to a small minority who think committing crime is acceptable.

“We have really taken the fight to this minority in the past couple of months with some great proactive policing and I look forward to continuing to do so.
