A Corby mum who was left with head and neck injuries including a broken nose, severe facial bruising and a haemorrhage behind her eye has said she cannot believe her attacker has not been arrested.

The 45-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were walking from a relative's house to catch a bus from Butland Road shops when she was verbally and physically attacked on Tuesday (October 20) at 8.15pm.

In the sustained attack, that she estimates lasted 15 minutes, she was kicked, punched, sat and stood on and had her hair pulled out by the roots.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "She left me for dead. I can't believe that the police haven't arrested her. They should have done it by now. I'm scared to come back to the area. I'm scared that if I bump into her again she'll do it again.

"She saw me and was shouting abuse. Then she went for me. She sat on me, punched me, stood on my neck. She was screaming at me. I said 'please get off'. My daughter called 999 but it took about half an hour for the police to come."

It was when the woman was semi-concious on the floor that her assailant started attacking her daughter pulling her hair.

"When she started on my daughter I got up and we just walked to get away from her. She was coming for me again. We walked and walked and I hid in the bushes near the park until the police came.

"The neighbours came out and asked if wanted to come in. I just wanted to get away. I was covered in blood. The police took me to hospital in Kettering."

Medical staff treated the woman for injuries including a broken nose, two black eyes.

She said: "They cleaned me up and I had a CAT scan. I looked like the Elephant Man."

She added: "Police came to take a statement. I couldn't believe it, it was that bad, that they haven't arrested her."

A police spokeswoman said: "This incident happened in Butland Road at about 9.40pm on October 20 when a woman in her 40s was attacked by another woman who grabbed her by the hair, punched and kicked her. The woman was taken to hospital but is okay and recovering.

"We would appeal for anyone who saw this incident to contact us on 101."
