Police are hunting a mugger who punched and bit his victim in a late-night attack in a quiet Northampton cul-de-sac.

Detectives say the man, thought to be in his 30s, rifled the victim's pockets after the assault in Hanemill Court, in the Little Billing area of the town, but ran off without stealing anything.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The incident happened at about 11pm on October 14 when a man was attacked by another man who punched him and bit his hand before searching through his pockets. Nothing was stolen however.

"The suspect is described as a white man in his late 30s, about 6ft, of a medium build, with blond hair in a short ponytail and wearing a blue coat with white patches.

"If anyone witnessed this incident or has any information which could help our investigation, please contact us on 101 using incident number 20000542702. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
