A fundraising appeal has been launched to help a community sports club recoup the cost of damage caused by vandals during a break-in.

Brixworth Central Sports Club, in St David’s Close, was broken into overnight between Sunday (October 18) and Monday (October 19).Cash and alcohol was stolen, TVs were ripped off the walls and left in the playing field and thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the premises.

The club, which is home to several football teams including Sands United Northants set up to help men affected by the loss of a child, has now had to shut until further notice, meaning teams have been left without a training venue.

To help raise the money the club needs, Sands set up a GoFundMe page, which has already reached more than £500.

News of the break-in and the knock on effect is having for the team who rely on being together as a group, also reached TV presenter Martin Lewis.

The money expert donated a separate sum of money to help the club get back on its feet, which left team members shocked and grateful at the power of football.

Tipping Point presenter, Ben Shepard, also sent well wishes to the club via Twitter.
