Man tries to snatch dog from teenage girl in Thrapston

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man tried to steal a dog from a 16-year-old girl in Windsor Drive, Thrapston.

The incident took place between 7.40pm and 8pm on Sunday (October 4) as the teenager was walking her Jackapoo in the play area, when she was approached by a man who started to pet the dog.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "He then picked the dog up and tried to run off with it.

"The girl still had hold of the dog’s lead and held on to the dog.

"The man eventually put the dog back down and ran off."

The offender is described as white, about 40-years-old, 6ft, with dark hair.

He wore a black jacket.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the attempted theft or who may have seen anyone running from the play area, between the stated times or who may have captured the incident on CCTV or dash-cam footage.
