Man taken to hospital after he was 'set alight' in Corby

A man has received serious burns to his head following an incident in Corby this morning.

Neighbours said the scene in Grendon Avenue was 'horrific' and that they believed a man had petrol poured on him before being 'set alight'.

One told the Northants Telegraph that the incident appeared to be domestic and that a resident had been seen being taken out of a house with a blackened face from burns, allegedly inflicted by another man.

Police were called to the scene along with forensics officers who searched the area for evidence.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman, said: “At 8.15am this morning, police officers were called to an incident in Grendon Avenue, Corby, whereby a man had sustained serious burns.

“He is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

“Investigations are ongoing as to the circumstances surrounding this incident and a 53-year-old man is currently in police custody on suspicion of GBH.”
