A police spokesman said the car was spotted travelling at more than twice the speed limit before it hit the house, which suffered some structural damage.

It's understood the family inside the house did not suffer any injuries.

A 25-year-old man from Desborough has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink-driving, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and a Covid-19 breach.

He remains in custody this morning.

A police helicopter was also hovering above the town in the early hours but it's not yet clear whether this was for an unrelated incident.
