Man charged after car stolen in Gretton is stopped on M6 motorway

An alleged car thief has appeared in court after a vehicle was stolen in Gretton.

Police stopped a car on the M6 at Sandbach in Cheshire on July 27 after it was allegedly stolen from Westhill Farm in Gretton.

The 52-plate silver Dacia Duster had earlier been taken early on the same day from the rural location.

Jamie McGarrity of a caravan park in New Dover Road, Capel Le Ferne, Kent, was arrested at Sandbach and subsequently charged with burglary of car keys, vehicle theft, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.

The 37-year-old was also charged with vehicle interference in connection with a blue Suzuki Jimny on the same date in Gretton.

He did not enter a plea when he appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court and his case was sent to crown court. He was remanded in custody and will appear before a judge in Northampton in September.
