Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a man approached a girl playing hide and seek and tried to pull her away.

The incident happened at around 8pm on Sunday, July 5 in Cromwell Court, Wellingborough.

A girl was playing hide and seek in the street with her father when a man took her hand.

Police said the man initially appeared to be helping the girl but then appeared to pull her away.

The girl's parents shouted and the girl pulled her hand from the man.

The man then walked off but police would like to speak to him.

A police spokesman said: "I would like to reassure the local community that we take such reports seriously and are currently investigating the circumstances of this incident.

"I would urge the man who approached the girl shortly after 8pm on Sunday evening to get in touch with police to help us understand exactly what happened."

The man is described as white, in his early 40s and was wearing a blue or grey hooded top, grey or black tracksuit bottoms or jeans and a black cap. He was carrying a blue bag containing cans of larger.

The man or anyone with information is asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101.
