Man accused of driving a car at police officers arrested in Corby after dramatic chase through three counties

A man has been taken into custody after he allegedly drove at police officers who were trying to arrest him.

The suspect, who is in his 40s, was arrested at the junction of the A43 and A427 near Weldon in the early hours of this morning. Our dramatic pictures from the scene show the moment of the arrest.

Officers from Cambridgeshire Police had been called out at 10.20pm to Vere Road, to the north of Peterborough, after violence was reported.

Police on the scene tried to speak to the man but he drove away, driving at officers as he did so.

Lincolnshire Police officers then tracked the vehicle in their area and tried to speak to the driver, but once again he drove off, this time hitting a police car.

A chase then took place and the car was eventually brought to a stop on the A43 at about 12.15am.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of common assault, one count of common assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving, failing to stop and drug driving.

He remains in custody at Thorpe Wood police station in Peterborough.

A police plane from Doncaster assisting officers on the ground also circled above Corby during the late evening.
