A Kettering thug who headbutted a woman and threw a phone at her head has been sentenced to unpaid work.

Daniel Charman was arrested after the incident in Edmund Street at about 9pm on October 15 last year.

The 29-year-old was in an argument with his victim before attacking her, leaving him facing a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He headbutted the woman, threw a mobile phone at her head and put his hands around her neck.

She was left with scratch marks and reddening to her neck as a result of the incident.

Charman, of Edmund Street, later admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm before magistrates at Northampton and faced the possibility of a spell behind bars when he was sentenced last week.

But magistrates instead sentenced him to a community order with rehabilitation requirements and 180 hours of unpaid work.

Charman must pay prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £90.
