A judge has jailed a man who strangled a woman in Kettering.

Dean Barry Paul Petts has been sent to prison for two violent offences against a woman.

Petts, of Grasmere Road, Kettering, was before Northampton Crown Court in May to be sentenced for the offences, to which he pleaded guilty.

Between February 23 and 26 this year, the 41-year-old intentionally strangled a woman. He also admitted assaulting her between the same dates.

Her Honour Judge Adrienne Lucking gave Petts 21 months in prison. She also imposed a five-year restraining order banning Petts from contacting the woman or from going to her address.

Petts has previous convictions for offences including assault, shoplifting and public order.

In 2024 he was imprisoned after assaulting three police officers and smashing up a police car. And in 2025 he was again jailed after assaulting a police officer and threatening another with a pair of scissors.
