The 46-year-old was jailed for four weeks at Northampton Magistrates' Court because "all non-custodial sentences have failed".

He must also pay compensation of £100.

It's the prolific criminal's third spell behind bars of the year after he was initially given a last chance with a suspended sentence for burglary.

But just days later Gaffney, of Highfield Crescent, burgled a shop and was jailed for a total of 10 weeks.

He was released from custody but sent back behind bars in August after admitting theft, assault and failing to comply with his supervision requirements.

Last year he was also given a community order after damaging a shop at Savers in the town centre.
