A nearby resident who did not want to be named said they saw two police officers with guns walking down Cottingham Road, past the BP garage.

They said: "They told us to back into our houses.

"It was a bit scary because we're not used to seeing guns in the street."

A police spokesman said they deployed officers but did not find anyone.

The spokesman said: "Enquiries continue to be progressed this morning.

"Anyone with information or anyone who witnessed it should contact us."
