A Corby man has had his rape sentence reduced after a hearing at London's Court of Appeal.

Jordan Carley, who pleaded guilty in 2019 to the rape of a 12-year-old girl from Corby five years ago, went to the Royal Courts of Justice on Friday (October 30) to ask for a reduction in his four-and-a-half year sentence.

Sitting at the court The Strand, judges Her Honour Justice Johannah Cutts DBE and Sir Nicolas Blake agreed that the original sentence was too long and reduced the period of imprisonment to three years and nine months. Carley will serve half of that sentence so could now be eligible for parole as early as May next year. He will be on the sex offenders' register for life.

His victim, who has lifelong anonymity, was overwhelmed by the support that local people showed her on social media following the Northants Telegraph story last week. She thanked local people, and said: "I feel let down by the justice system, I've lost a lot of trust and faith in it after today.

"It wasn't the best outcome however it wasn't the worst either, but he is going to get out at some point which I've come to terms with.

"I'm shocked at the fact he appealed it in the first place with such a lenient sentence, and more so because it was shortened even more.

"I've had so much support from my family and friends which has massively helped and I'm so grateful for that."

Carley pleaded guilty last July of raping the girl four years previously when he was 16 and she was just 12. The court heard of the profound effect it had had on her, causing her to be bullied at school.

Carley's barrister at the time, Daniel Bishop, said it was a matter of national shame that the case had taken so long to come to court. The full judgement is yet to be published.
