Housing developer charged with £2.8m of VAT fraud spanning more than 10 years in Northamptonshire

He is accused of applying for VAT repayments he was not entitled to and defrauding HMRC.

The Northamptonshire director of a housing development company has appeared in court charged with committing more than £2.8m of VAT fraud.

Director of Chardon Homes Limited Raymond, Paul Groome - of High Street, Wollaston - appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court yesterday (October 22).

It is alleged that between 2006 and 2017, the 84-year-old defrauded £2.858m from HRMC through false VAT statements and applying for repayments he was no entitled to.

The charges do not state whether the charges are related to Groome's position as director of the Glasgow-based housing developer, which he founded in 1997.

Groome was remanded on bail and will appear at Northampton Crown Court on NOvember 18.
