Detectives are hunting a woman who tricked her way into a Northampton pensioner's home by pretending to be a Good Samaritan — then ran off with his wallet.

The 68-year-old was heading back to his home near Dallington Park sheltered housing when the woman offered to carry his bags.

But police revealed the apparently kind-hearted gesture was just a ruse to get into the pensioner's home and have issued a description of a woman they want to find in connection with the burglary.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "This woman who followed the man into his home in Dallington Haven then asked him for a drink.

"But, while he was out of the room, the offender then stole his wallet and left.

"The woman is described as white with a pale complexion, aged 30, 5ft 6in, of a slim build with shoulder length streaky black hair. She was wearing a long beige coat. The incident happened between 1.30pm and 1.40pm on Wednesday, June 17.
