Detectives are puzzling over how a 16-year-old girl walked into a Northampton police station before telling officers about a number of "very serious offences."

The teenager, who speaks little English, was immediately safeguarded after talking to police at Weston Favell at around 10am on September 9.

But officers investigating the allegations want to know how she got there and it is likely she would have needed to ask members of the public for help finding the station.

Detective Sergeant Ashleigh Houlden, said: "I would really encourage anyone who spoke to this girl that morning to contact us, as you may be able to help us piece together her route to the police station.

"This girl disclosed some very serious offences when she finally found us. We are unable to share more details at the moment for her sake, however I would like to reassure the public that she is now safe and being looked after.

"If you spoke to this girl on that Wednesday morning of September 9, or you remember seeing her, please contact us on 101."

The girl is described as white, about 5ft 5in and of a slim build, with dark brown hair in two French plaits on either side of her head. She was wearing a hooded jacket, jeans, white trainers, and carrying a patterned pink rucksack on her back.

Police believe she came from the park at the rear of the police station, from the direction of the A43 underpass.
