Police say the 17-year-old needed hospital treatment after suffering cuts to his hands and head and severe bruising after being battered with baseball bats.
Officers were called to Station Road in Desborough at about 9.15pm where the boy had been approached by at least four men.
The victim was able to run off and raise the alarm following the attack.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Kettering General Hospital.
