A girl who ran into the path of an oncoming vehicle after visiting an ice cream van in Burton Latimer has suffered a potentially life-changing injury.

The four-year-old was seriously hurt after the horror crash at about 2.45pm yesterday (Wednesday) in Finedon Road.

A police spokesman said she had visited an ice cream van and ran in between parked cars.

The girl ran into the road into the path of a silver Mitsubishi L200, the spokesman added.

She was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with a "serious, potentially life-changing head injury".

No arrests have been made in connection with the crash. The air ambulance landed nearby.
