An investigation into arson has been opened after a mattress was set alight and pushed against the front door of a Northampton home.

The arson took place between 3.30am and 4am on Wednesday, March 17 in Derby Road, Abington. A mattress was set on fire outside of one of the properties and then pressed up against the front door, which caused the fire to spread.

Firefighters were called to the scene and now police are investigating the arson.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: "Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time, or have information about the incident.

"Residents nearby who have CCTV are also asked to review their footage and contact police with any information they may have. Please call Northamptonshire Police on 101 with any relevant information, quoting incident number: 21000149099."
