Fifth man charged over Irchester caravan site attempted murder

A fifth man has been charged with attempted murder after four people were stabbed at a Travellers' site in Irchester.

Charlie Christopher McDonagh, aged 20 and of Bescot Croft, Birmingham, has been charged with attempted murder, three counts of GBH with intent and with possessing an offensive weapon.

It comes after the incident in the early hours of New Year's Day at the Gypsy Lane Caravan Park in Gipsy Lane, near Irchester Country Park, which left three men and a woman with stab wounds.

As a result of the attack at about 4.40am one man was taken to University Hospital Coventry with stab wounds to his face and neck and multiple injuries including a broken leg.

The female victim was taken to the same hospital with a stab wound to her torso and two other men were taken to Northampton General Hospital with stab wounds.

Charlie McDonagh is the fifth McDonagh to be charged in connection with the incident.

The other men charged in connection with the incident are Thomas McDonagh, 24, of Copt Oak Road, Markfield, John Paul McDonagh, 37, of no fixed address, Bernard Joseph McDonagh, 19, of Copt Oak Road, Markfield and Patrick McDonagh, 36, of Copt Oak Road, Markfield.

John Paul, Bernard Joseph and Patrick McDonagh are next all due to appear in court on June 29, 2020.

Thomas and Charlie McDonagh will appear at court on a date to be arranged.
