Detectives are hunting a man in his 20s who they believe stole a car after breaking into the owner's house in the St James area of Northampton overnight.

The VW Passat has since been recovered but officers think the same offender also broke into a van in a nearby pub car park.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The offender broke into the property in Marlborough Road, Northampton, through a rear window between 10pm on Friday (November 27) and 5am Saturday and stole a number of items including keys to the family’s car.

"The offender — who is also believed to have broken into a van parked at the Thomas Beckett car park — is described as a white man in his early 20s, medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing grey jogging bottoms and black T-shirt."

Officers have issued an appeal for anyone in the Marlborough Road area who may CCTV or dash-cam footage which could have captured the vehicle being driven away or the offender breaking into the van or property.

Anyone who may have any information which could help the Police investigation can call 101 using reference 20000629655. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
