These are the faces of 12 criminals put behind bars for anything up to 15 years by judges at Northampton Crown Court during January 2023.
They include a man who threatened staff at a bookies with a machete, vile child sex offenders, people traffickers who preyed on victims who were vulnerable and ripe for exploitation and a thug who battered a woman so badly she was left in hospital with multiple fractures, a broken arm and a bruised bladder.
5. TONY JACKMAN
Police uncovered a string of sex offences after arresting paedophile Jackman, 60, in May 2022 over allegations he touched a girl inappropriately and tried to kiss her. Examination of his devices led to the 60-year-old, previously of Irthlingborough, admitting two counts of sexual assault, three of making indecent images of children, three of taking photographs of children, five of recording images under clothing without consent, and voyeurism. 6. LEWIS VANMEER-SHERIDAN
The 28-year-old, of Sulman Grove, Milton Keynes, was sentenced to eight years, four months and put on the Sex Offenders Register for life after raping a teenager twice and attempting to rape a woman in Northampton after using a dating app to communicate with victims. Photo: Northamptonshire Police
7. WILLIAM APPLEYARD
The 35-year-old, of no fixed address, with a string of convictions for violent robberies was jailed for nine years after a court heard he threatened a worker at a Kettering bookies with a meat cleaver before fleeing with £400 cash from a gaming machine in June last year — just a week after also targeting a betting shop in Lincolnshire. 8. CHRISTOPHER GEORGE NAST
Serial thief Nast had a suspended sentence activated by magistrates after pleading guilty to three further thefts from shops in Rushden and Higham Ferrers. The 40-year-old, of no fixed abode, was given a 12-month sentence suspended for two years in November after admitting six thefts in Rushden and asking for a further 10 to be taken into consideration.
But he pleaded guilty to three more thefts from Tesco Express in Rushden and the Co-op in Higham Ferrers during December, leading to him being jailed. Photo: Northamptonshire Police
