A former volunteer police officer in Northamptonshire has been accused of gross misconduct for misusing the force's intelligence system.

Ex-Special Constable Michael Shortland carried out searches and/or accessed confidential information without lawful authority and/or reasonable excuse.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on eight separate days between September 9, 2018, and January 21, 2019 and related to himself and members of the public.

A disciplinary hearing will be held by Northamptonshire Police at its headquarters in Northampton on Wednesday and Thursday (October 7 and 8).
