A suspected drink-driver tried to run off after a dangerous manoeuvre near an unmarked armed response vehicle (ARV) in Northamptonshire...but he was too drunk to run.

The driver had overtaken the unmarked car in a dangerous manner at a junction and failed to stop. His car was found nearby but the driver had run off. He was caught as he was "too drink to run far". His car was seized by Northamptonshire Police's ARV team.

It is the latest in a series of cars being seized that was revealed by the team on Friday night.

The team highlighted another case where someone was stopped four hours after buying a new car.

"It was bought as someone's pride and joy, but it’s a pity they didn’t care enough about to insure it. It was seized within four hours of purchase. An expensive lesson learned," a spokesperson for the ARV team said.

In another case a van linked to thefts was located by an ARV. A search revealed a machete and a lot of metal and rolls of cable. Both occupants were arrested for theft and offensive weapon. The driver of the van was uninsured.

And in a final case revealed last night, a vehicle came into the county having failed to stop last month in West Yorks. The driver made off and after a short pursuit he crashed into a roundabout bursting all four tyres and emptying the sump all over the road in the process. His vehicle was also seized.
