Driver jailed and banned for ten years after police stop BMW in Northampton town centre

Magistrates jailed a 39-year-old man and slapped him with a ten-year driving after he was stopped by one of Northamptonshire Police’s new Interceptors.

Evaldas Jurevicius, formerly of Northampton, was stopped in the town’s Campbell Street after his blue BMW 3 Series showed up as having no insurance.

He was swiftly arrested and later charged with driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, possession of cocaine, and obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty.

At court, he pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced to 22 weeks imprisonment and disqualified.

Inspector David Wakeman, the West LPA Interceptor Lead, said: “Our interceptors are designed for one purpose – to make the roads in Northamptonshire as hostile a place as possible for criminals.

“Jurevicius was initially stopped for his car having no insurance however, like so many other incidents, upon inspection, it was clear that he was committing other offences.

Northamptonshire Police launched their new Interceptors last month.

The hi-tech Skoda Octavia VRS Estate 2.0 TDI 4x4s have a top speed of 143mph and can do 0-60mph in eight seconds. Seven of the vehicles are equipped with ANPR and tracker equipment.
