Driver flees late-night smash in Northampton...but leaves ID behind for police to find
Astra wrecked after ploughing into safety barrier near Abington Park
Police say they will have no trouble finding a driver who fled after smashing his car into metal railings in Northampton on Saturday night.
Officers found the wrecked Vauxhall Astra abandoned but discovered whoever left it had thoughtfully kept his ID in the glovebox!
The car crashed into metal railings at the junction with Park Avenue South, near Abington Park, at around 11.15pm on Saturday, tearing away a wheel and front wing.
PC Aaron Griffiths, who attended, revealed the vehicle hit the barriers — which are designed to protect pedestrians on the footpath — at such a speed it uprooted metal poles from the concrete.
He tweeted: "Fortunately the driver has left documents behind which can identify him along with registered keeper and insurance enquiries. See you soon."
